About 7" in diameter and 2" tall and in fair antique condition. As you can see it, has been well used with tons of scratches, scuffs, little fashion cuts and indents, not to mention a lot of ink staining in the interior of the pewter cup part. The white insert feels like glass but it's probably porcelain or that vitreous china that was common back then. It too is well worn and stained with some weird stuff going on, including this scrape or scar on the top of the rim that is stained with ink you can see seeping into the porcelain (5th photo). The base of it is in bad shape too with tons of irregularities and ink stains. It's hard to tell if it has small chips or fleabites or if it's just roughly made and molded porcelain that wasn't finiished well. It's in bad shape but there is no large chip or crack that I can make out. Just a ton of small stuff going on. I am sure it fell down many times on board ship. Hard to tell really because all the stains and bad manufacture. I have tried cleaning it with bon ami but it really couldn't take off all the years of ink. It looks like the original but I can't say for sure.
The pewter shows a lot of hard use but there are no obnoxious bangs or smashes; just wear, a ring stain that looks like the captain put his mug on it, and some scars on the lid hinge and lid proper near the hinge. There is really too much to go into, so please use the etsy zoom to scan over the piece. I would say all its flaws are just use and age related and not from abuse. I have seen them in worse shape. It just looks used and old. I took the last three photos after cleaning it so you might see some dirt and dust that was later removed. I washed out the interior of the well part as best i could but, again, like the insert, there are years of absorbed ink in there. Base is badly worn and scratched and the made in England is barely visible.
I don't do returns or exchanges and this is sold as, so please convo any questions or concerns. I do not test vintage or antique pieces for lead or heavy metals so please read shop disclaimer.
