Vintage FOLK ART HORSE & Sled, Quebec Carved Wood Folk Art, Rustic fashion Horse and Sleigh, Primitive Carving Sled w/ Logs, Folk Art Sculpture

This is a unique and wonderful piece of folk art made by an artist in Quebec, probably in the 1940s. It is a wood sculpture of a horse pulling a sled loaded with wood poles.

In the tradition of vintage Quebec folk art, it is rustic and almost childish. The horse is black with a white mane and splashes of white on its feet. The sled is red, immediately in black. The wood poles are brown and round in shape. The driver, carved from one piece of wood, sits on a yellow bench. Two strands of what looks like plastic serve as the reins.

The piece is unsigned, as is much of Quebec's folk art.

The piece measures 20.5-inches in length, from end of the sled to the tip of the horse's nose. It is 7.75-inches high, from the ground to the top of the horse's ears. The sled is 3-inches deep.

The carving is choppy and rustic as is the paint - all adding up to a terrific, vintage piece. Would look right at home in a farmhouse or rustic setting. Would also be quite terrific at Christmas, added to your rustic holiday decor!
