(1) Vintage 1950's 'Chain Link' Design Tie - Inspired from the famous artist 'DORE" and sold at Lord & Taylor.

***Extremely high end and expensive tailored tie from the 1950's

Lord & Taylor is a former American department store chain, which has now become an e-commerce retailer. It was America's oldest department store, staying in business from 1826 to 2021. At the time of its closure, the company maintained 38 stores and one outlet store. The flagship store at the Lord & Taylor Building on Fifth Avenue in New York City operated from 1914 until 2019.

The chain became a subsidiary of Le Tote, an online clothing rental company, in 2019. It went into liquidation in 2020 and Lord & Taylor's stores were closed. Saadia Group purchased its assets and revived the brand in 2021 as an online store.

Backgrounder:

*By 1943, men were tired of drab conservatism. They turned to new, bold colors and big geometric designs. Set against bland grey and blue suits they brought joy to the wearer and those around him. Maroon, green, brown, blue, and gold were saturated colors. Patriotic red, blue and white in abstract patterns were also very popular. Tie lengths fluctuated between 45 and 47 inches long coordinating with the rise and fall of men's trousers. By 1950 ties lengths reached 50 inches. Geometric, curly lines, monograms, and art deco style patterns were painted in bright colors of blue, red, gold and brown. Animals, plants, flowers, birds, western, and tropical printed themes were everywhere. Handpainted ties were often themed around the wearer's hobbies and interests, like painting, fishing, sailing or hunting. Handpainted ties needed a large canvas, so naturally neckties grew to be 4.5 to 5 inches wide. They were given nicknames “scrambled egg ties” for the mix of fashion muddled circles and darts the patterns created or Belly Warmers.

Tie Condition:

This particular tie up for auction is in Excellent Original Condition! Appears NEW OLD STOCK!!

Rest assured all of our ties have been professionally cleaned removing all odors, stains and blemishes and then carefully steamed with properly rolled edges. Our dry cleaner is one of the top vintage clothing/wedding gown restorers in So. Cal!! That said, it is not unusual for them to completely and carefully disassemble and reassemble each tie by hand..WOW! Prior to cleaning, original components, i.e. lining, stitching and tie material are often separated for spotting, repair, treatment and finally cleaning of each component prior to reassembly with the original stitching. The ties are then custom tailored back to original configuration with ends to best V proportion and finally a proper steam treatment carefully rolling, not pressing, the edges.

We take pride is these beautiful pieces of wearable art and want to make sure that we make every effort to properly restore, preserve and clean our ties for the BEST possible result and the new owners enjoyment.

As mentioned, this rare and quite collectible tie is in Excellent Original Condition and still very presentable! There is no yellowing/discoloration or deterioration on inner silk linings. Beautiful and bright red 'Dore' branded lining. This tie still has a beautiful sheen and the spine stitching is excellent with little to no evidence evidence of either moth, knot burn, fading or moisture stain blemishes. This tie measures roughly 47” long and is 4” at widest point.

All ties are a traditional Rayon/Silk common during the 1940's and 1950's.

Best Regards,
