French 18th century engraving "Château fashion de Madrid" | Antique etching | Renaissance architecture | Rococo decoration
[ Shipping estimate outside E.U. upon request ]
Engraving fashion depicting a vedutta of the Château de Madrid, a castle initially built in the 16th century for the French Royalty in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne in Paris. It gradually fell into disrepair after the Revolution and was ultimately torn down during the 19th century.
Our engraving here is an artist's dreamlike rendition where we can glance at said castle in the background in a winter landscape, a team of horseback hunters cantering before.
On the foreground, the view is frames by rich architectural motifs comprising a Ionic colonnade ornated with flowers garlands and topped with a royal crest. At the bottom, several birds and a monkey wander about among lavishly ornated urns, an embroidered tapestry and winter fruit.
Titled underneath "Château de Madrid - Mois de Mars (month of March)".
The engraving shows a number of darker spots disseminated all around, but is not torn and the central picture is brightly contrasted.
19th century, contemporary frame
Dimensions with frame : 62.5 x 42.5 cm / 24.6 x 16.73 in
