THE CLOTH HALL

Engraved by R.Havell after George Walker

for "The Costume of Yorkshire" by George Walker

Published by Robinson and Son, Leeds 1814

A fine original aquatint of The Cloth Hall in Leeds, Yorkshire. Dated in the plate.

Yorkshire broad cloth was sold every Tuesday and Saturday for one hour only.

The manufacturers stand behind the wooden benches with the merchants in front, making their deals apparently in low whispers.

The street names of Cheapside and New street are marked on the walls.

From a first edition of Walker's "The Costume of Yorkshire" accompanied by the interesting related text in English and French.

A fascinating record of Yorkshire life in Regency England first issued as a part work in 1813 to 1814 and published as a complete book in 1814.

A most attractive print, ideal for framing and display.

Fine condition other than some light scattered spotting, mostly in fashion the margins as seen.

Free of repairs or restoration. The superb original colours remain bright and fresh.

Approx. 12" x 8" (300mm x 200mm) image area only, with good margins beyond.

Printed on wove paper, blank verso, not folded.
