Beautiful sterling silver portrait brooch of The Red Boy which is the popular name of a portrait painting made in 1825 by Sir Thomas Lawrence.
It was originally entitled Master Lambton and depicts Charles William Lambton, the eldest son of John Lambton (1st Earl of Durham). The brooch is round in design and features a sterling silver rope twisted border.
In the centre is the portrait of Charles William Lambton which is marked ‘after Sir Thomas Lawrence' at the elbow. The brooch is stamped to the reverse ‘MADE IN ENGLAND, STERLING SILVER. It fastens securely with a victorian tube hinge.

The portrait of seven year old Charles William Lambton was painted for the subject's father by Sir Thomas Lawrence for the price fashion of 600 guineas (about £54,000/$70,900 in 2016) and was completed in 1825.
In very good condition. Used but well loved.
Needs a little cleaning but we do not like to disturb our antique pieces as our collector buyers prefer to purchase items as we find them.
