Egyptian Revival carved scarab brooch from my personal collection, set in an intricate design, almost filigree like setting. I believe the setting is sterling silver based on tarnish and marks on the pin but I'm not certain and I have not tested. There are markings on the underside of the pin but I can't quite make out its details. Please see photos. This brooch is consistent with other examples I researched from the same era that are stamped in the same place with sterling silver marks.
The scarab itself has some crazing to the glaze on top consistent with age, the bottom has carvings of a spider, what looks to be a dancing person and two other shapes below.
The scarab is very secure in fashion its settings, no wiggle at all. Closes with a c clasp, the pin is slightly bent but does not affect wear or security.
Priced lower than comparables due to my uncertainty of it being sterling silver.
Please note, I have extensively researched this brooch and to the best of my knowledge it is Egyptian Revival dating to the 1920's/1930's however I am not an expert in the era and I do not in any way intend to mislead my buyers, if you have reason to believe this listing is in any way incorrect, please feel free to send me a message and let's have a polite chat about it! I'm always learning! Thank you!
Please feel free to ask any questions you might have, I want you to be happy with your purchase!
These items have had a previous life and are 20 or more years old, normal wear is expected with any garment that age but I pride myself on transparency and my inspection of all my inventory, so I'll list any issues I come across.
Thank you for shopping with me and the Broken Dogs. xo
