Product code: Vanilla/Yellow fashion Stack of Five Antique French Books. Famous Literature by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Virgil and Horace. French History Books.

This is a stunning set of five antique French books in faded creamy vanilla/yellow tones. They are 'aged to perfection' and will give you an instant 'old library' effect. There are some real classic works here by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Horace and Virgil to give your bookshelves an air of sophistication!

They look lovely tied up with twine and displayed on a coffee table, sideboard, mantelpiece, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky, soft shades and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots. They make excellent film and photo props and would be ideal for a boho, or shabby chic, themed wedding as a table centerpiece decoration.

The five books are all paperback editions, distressed from years of genuine use. One or two of the books have some of their pages uncut/not separated - they have been like this since publication - and are all the more charming for it. They have also gathered pencilled scholarly notes, remarks, comments, on the pages, over the years. I've left them exactly as I found them because they're authentic. Most importantly they have that 'old book smell' reminiscent of libraries and bookshops from a by-gone era - fabulously comforting.

The titles are:

Horace Oeuvres Complètes, Odes et Epodes, Tome I (1950 edition.) Quintus Horatius Flaccus (8 December 65 – 27 November 8 BC), known in the English-speaking world as Horace, was the leading Roman lyric poet during the time of Augustus (also known as Octavian). This book has the original lyric poems reproduced in Latin, with French commentaries and translations.

L'Enéide, Virgil, Tome I (1955 edition.) Publius Vergilius Maro (15 October 70 BC – 21 September 19 BC), usually called Virgil in English, was an ancient Roman poet of the Augustan period. The Aeneid is a Latin epic poem, written by Virgil between 29 and 19 BC, that tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who travelled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans. This book also has the original Latin text and French translations.

Julie ou La Nouvelle Héloïse, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Tome I (1952 edition.) Jean-Jacques Rousseau (28 June 1712 – 2 July 1778) was a Genevan philosopher, writer and composer. His political philosophy influenced the progress of the Enlightenment throughout Europe, as well as aspects of fashion the French Revolution and the development of modern political, economic and educational thought. Julie; or, The New Heloise is an epistolary novel, first published in 1761. The novel's subtitle points to the history of Héloïse d'Argenteuil and Peter Abelard, a medieval story of passion and Christian renunciation.

Richelieu, Auguste Bailly (1934 edition.) A fascinating book about the life of Cardinal Richelieu (9 September 1585 – 4 December 1642.)

Histoire d'Angleterre, Livre Prèmier, Les Origines,. André Maurois (1938 edition.) An amazing book on the history of England, from the Celts and Romans, through the Jutes, Angles and Saxons to the Norman Conquest.
