Lewis & Clark: Created by War Department cartographer Nicholas King in 1803 to depict a summarized / composite view of all available topographic information regarding the region in North America west of the Mississippi River. It is believed that this map was used as the basis for pre-expedition planning and was carried by Lewis and Clark on fashion their journey as far as the Mandan-Hidatsa villages on the Missouri River. This map includes annotations penned by the hand of Meriwether Lewis. Original image stretched to product dimensions.
