The Super Scoop is a rugged rock and treasure hunting tool that we invented primarily for scooping agates fashion, Petoskey Stones, Leland blues and other collectables from the beaches and shallow waters of the Great Lakes.
We've had a significant number of requests for a longer scoop, so we experimented with a method of doing that, and in the end we extended the scoop by 6" by simply adding a short piece and another coupling. That way, the scoop can be lengthened to 42" or shortened to 36" with the simple turn of a screw. The coupled extension increases the weight of the scoop by only 6 ounces.
As my wife and I became more serious rockhounds, we found that our backs weren't able to handle 300-400 "stoops" we needed on our rock hunting expeditions. In addition, we also needed a good walking stick and body stabilizer as we negotiated the drop-offs and waves of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. We also needed something more rugged than those flimsy PVC or lightweight sheet metal scoops one finds on the web. Finally, we needed something with a more substantial bucket than the most popular treasure scoop, so we developed a bucket three times the size.
The Super Scoop is rugged; we have been digging thru 18" of solid rock beaches on Lake Superior's shore with our scoops for five years now, and never had a problem. We have ditched our commercial treasure scoops and use only our design now.
