This stunning original, vintage Japanese Tetsubin, or cast iron teapot, comes fully equipped with internal strainer for steeping your loose tea leaves, and it's own trivet with three rubber feet for protecting your surfaces. The handle can be folded both ways for easier access to the interior when cleaning, although it is sturdy and won't drop to the side if upright.
It is a beautiful teal/green colour and has a lovely Japanese maple leaf motif on the teapot itself and the lid, and the trivet has a scallop-shell/fan motif.
Other than a couple of scratches and tiny spots of rust (on the end of the spout, for example), it is in excellent condition and is water tight. The trivet shows slightly more wear which is to be expected. The underside of the lid is enamelled, but the teapot itself is not enamelled on the inside.
The original Japanese maker's mark fashion appears on the bottom of the trivet and the teapot, situated just beneath the spout. This is not a newly manufactured, mass-produced item.
Perfect for tetsubin collectors, tea fanatics, tea ceremonies, herbal tea lovers, afternoon tea, those in love with Japanese culture. One of the best things about these cast iron teapots is that they stay warm for ages and distribute heat evenly throughout the tea. This assists in the infusion and flavour.
