This is the closed spoke or "embossed pilot" variation fashion of the tried and true Marx 999. Most of these have a smooth pilot or "cow catcher". The smooth pilot has less detail, but easier to make from a manufacturing standpoint. Marx soon dropped the embossed pilot, thus making this version a rarity. This embossed pilot 999 locomotive is a great runner, be easy on the throttle, it will fly! It runs just as well in reverse. The headlight works. The metal body is all original with no touch-ups to the paint. Really a nice 70 plus year old locomotive!.
