Maple Burl is known for its highly prized unusual growth patterns seen in the grain of the wood. The Burl grain patterns in this piece is exquisite, mixed in with the quilting (wavy lines) is a perfect mix. Quilting is caused by the weight of the heavy branches on the trunk of the tree. fashion Turning irregular natural edge pieces this large is a challenge for the wood turner but the results are very rewarding. Care has to be taken with the wood spinning at 1200 to 1400 rpm to not get clothes, hands or other body parts caught on the irregular voids on the edge.
The natural voids on the top were filled with Brass Inlay.
