Message from the Artist:
For this reduction block print, I used a single piece of linoleum (Gomuban) and Akua inks to produce a multi-colored print. The block was gradually cut away as each color was fashion printed working from lightest to darkest. In order to preserve the lightest, which was the color of the paper, those portions were cut away first. The second lightest color was printed, then carved away and so on until only the darkest areas to be printed remained raised and able to accept ink. The block is essentially destroyed during the process. A reduction print can never be reprinted.
