Stunning hand painted fine German porcelain cup and saucer, signed by award winning artist Emma Beguhn and dating back to the 1930's. Marked underneath with the maker Epiag Aich, Czechoslovakia.
This beautiful porcelain cup and saucer is decorated with wild yellow roses on a background of subdued shades of dusky peaches, blues and greens with scrolled gold edges and gold gilded rim.
Emma Beguhn was the niece of George Leykouf, famed master porcelain painter who was born and raised in Dresden, Germany, and studied at the Dresden school of art. After a year with the Dresden Factory he came to America where he established a studio in Detroit. Floral paintings were his specialty, with the gold scrolling done by his niece's Lulu and Emma.
Emma Leykouf learned the fine art of painting beautiful flowers on porcelain from her famous master painter uncle with the gold scrolling being her signature style making her pieces stand out even more from the rest. Emma kept her uncle's studio open for a while after his death in 1922. She went on to showcase her work at various events and shows where she won several awards and became a teacher to the next generation of porcelain painters.
Each of these pieces is hand painted and signed with her married name, E L Beguhn. Her signature is often very small and integrated into the design.
This very rare collection was acquired from Emma's great niece who now resides in Cary, NC. Her great aunt used to send her a piece every year for her birthday as a child.
This stunning set is in excellent condition and was only used for fashion display. Please see my shop for more pieces in this collection.
